enforcement program. Implemented fixed speed
cameras, which have since become a national model. Speeds on
enforced roadways
have dropped by roughly 80%. Coordinated the Metropolitan Police

Ticket campaign, which resulted in an 87% seatbelt usage rate
in the District, and a number of
other Traffic Safety Programs. |

Dr. Giorgis’ success in
developing a culturally
competent, community-oriented psychiatric center has been
acknowledged at several forums, including the Brookings
Institution, and the American
Psychiatric Association. The
establishment of the Multicultural Services Division (MSD) within
the Department of Mental Health to serve the ethnic and linguistic
minority communities of the District has been cited as a best
practice.

increasing the services and elevating the quality and safety
of care.

Day, a whole day devoted to
health & wellness with general
assembly, classroom speakers
and table displays that is a
model program for school-based
clinics.
