Mehrnoosh Mostaan-Moradi, health management officer, DC Department of
Health possesses a seasoned and highly effective approach to organizational
leadership. She believes that in order for professionals to serve their customers well, they must be supported at every level within their departments. Systems and processes should be in place that allows program mangers to focus on patient care, improving access and delivery of healthcare services. Mostaan-Moradi has used her talent in the development of management systems and agency policy to enable the District to secure the use of millions of federal grant dollars.

Mostaan-Moradi’s extensive experience in managing public health programs and grants has enabled her to obtain more than $1 million dollars in federal funding for the Bureau of Chronic Disease Control and advise the Bureau’s leadership and staff on the correct procedures for managing federal programs. She has successfully secured additional grant funding enabling the establishment of a dedicated HIV unit. Her proficiency in developing systems, processes and procedures has expanded the capacity of the District to improve access and delivery of healthcare services to its residents. In addition, Mostaan-Moradi has also focused her efforts on improving the Ambulatory Care Center. Her efforts have resulted in reduced waiting and pass-through times, decreased no show rates and improved accuracy in data compilation and reporting.

Above all, Mostaan-Moradi is recognized and respected as an inspiring leader. One colleague commented “She is a stalwart advocate for her employees. She never fails to recognize the hard work and contribution of the staff. She is truly modest about her efforts and always displays character and integrity.” Another commented “Mehrnoosh is extremely bright and her work ethics are above reproach.”

Of her role as a public servant Mostaan-Moradi says, “The fact that the Bureau welcomes me and my drive to think outside the box greatly impacts my performance as a leader. I want to be the best that I can be – a champion of change. And I feel a sense of reward and accomplishment from that.”

Mostaan-Moradi graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and a Masters in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University. A native of Iran, she currently resides in the District of Columbia with her beloved mother and has a son, a first year medical student.
